Toyota's New Pre-Crash Technology Directs Steering

Toyota is developing a safety technology that takes control of the steering so the vehicle can veer away when it isn't able to stop before impact. A Toyota car stops automatically before a dummy, during a pre-collision system test in the demonstration of its safety technologies in Susono near Mount Fuji, west of Tokyo, Japan, Thursday, July 21, 2011. In the new system, Toyota uses cameras and a super sensitive radar called "millimeter-wave," both installed in the front of the vehicle, to detect possible crashes such as a pedestrian crossing the road (see the image below). Remember Your Seatbelts

Vehicle manufacturers spend millions testing seatbelts, and their investment pays off: seatbelts are strong, easy to use, and they’re your most reliable defense against injury during a collision. Your seatbelts are built to perform the same way time after time, but that doesn’t mean they’re invincible. Take a minute to think about them: Is the material frayed? Do they latch weakly? Do they bind when you try to put them on? Don’t trust seatbelt care to anyone but your dealer mechanic, who has the parts and expertise to keep you safe.

Taking Care of Your Car's Mirrors

You know that your car’s mirrors are an invaluable safety feature, allowing you to see around blind spots on the road and keep an eye on other drivers. Their settings are unique to you, but sadly they’re vulnerable to damage. If your mirror gets clipped while backing out of the garage, put away that duct tape and head straight to your dealer mechanic. A new factory spec mirror will not only protect you; it keeps your car door safe from moisture damage and helps you pass state inspection. It also removes the chance of a broken or badly installed mirror breaking off while you’re driving! So watch those mirrors and trust your dealer to give you the sight you need.

Check this out Philly - Scion Brand Still Tops With Gen Y

What auto brands are likely to appeal to younger buyers? What's the next hip auto brand, in other words, for 18-27 year olds, a/k/a Generation Y? Scion! Toyota's offering for customizing kids. It worked. Scion has, almost since inception, had the youngest buyers in the business. A new study by TrueCar says the company still has its mojo. The study, which is based on purchase behavior of more than four million car buyers in 2009 and 2010, gave Scion, Mitsubishi and Mazda the nod as the auto brands with the highest concentration of under-27 buyers. Jesse Toprak, head of industry analysis at TrueCar, says Gen Y buyers set trends via social media. Per TrueCar data for 2009 and 2010, Scion had 21.2% of Gen Y buyers, Mitsubishi 20.3%, and Mazda 10.7%. On a model basis, Generation Y buyers opted for vehicles that were good for customizing or that made the experience easier: Scion tC, Mitsubishi Lancer and Honda Civic Si lead. "Scion targeted its vehicles from the outset to Gen Y, from styling and customization standpoint. It's a brand that was completely marketed and sold to that age group, and they succeeded," says Toprak. Toyota Yaris, Ford Focus couple, Scion xD, Volkswagen GLI, Subaru Impreza, Kia Forte and Toyota Corolla were the other vehicles in the top-ten list of cars purchased by Gen Y. Saving Money on Car Insurance

Planning to buy a car? Be careful when you budget for insurance payments, because that new vehicle might save you money. Almost every new or certified pre-owned vehicle will cut your insurance premium. Insurance companies consider the make, model, and year when setting your price—and if you purchase your pre-owned car from an authorized dealer, that can translate to a substantial savings. New or recent vehicles have features like anti-lock brakes, airbags and anti-theft devices that will also cut your monthly bill. Ask your insurance agent for details. And by the way, if you want a red car, buy it—contrary to what you might think, it won’t make your insurance go up!
