Need More Room in Your Budget? Try These Money-Saving Tips

When you live in an expensive city like Philadelphia, it can seem like there is never enough money to go around. If it always feels like money is tight and you're having trouble sticking to a budget, the most important thing that you can do is follow a few simple money saving tips. Although you might not realize it, saving money is actually easy when you have the right strategy in place. Learn how you can save money and stick to a budget in Philadelphia so that your finances will be more secure in the future. Track Everything The biggest mistake that people make when trying to save money is failing to track their purchases. In a world of electronic purchases and online banking, it can be easy to spend money without knowing it, making it extremely hard for you to save your money. Whenever you make a purchase in Philly, it's a good idea to keep a physical record of it. Writing down all of your transactions instead of relying on digital records will make it easier for you to keep track of your finances and will make it less likely that you spend frivolously. Similarly, if you're having trouble sticking to your budget, try reducing its length. Instead of writing a monthly budget, do a weekly version. This will make it much easier for you to stick your financial plan. more Save Money on Entertainment When trying to save more money, many people in Philadelphia worry that they'll have to sacrifice the money that they spend on items like entertainment. However, just because you're looking to cut back on your spending, it doesn't mean that you can't have a little fun now and then. You only need to spend your money wisely. For example, when you want to see all the sites that Philly has to offer, you could purchase a Philadelphia Pass. This pass lets you see some of the city's most popular attractions for a flat rate that's much less expensive than what you would pay for individual entry. Also, the official Philadelphia visitor site posts regular deals that can help you find cheap opportunities for fun and entertainment. Shop Smart Other than housing, food is the largest ongoing expense that a person will have to cover. Fortunately, while many people don't realize it, you can easily cut back on your costs of food without having to eat lower quality products. The first way to save money on your food bills is to set a monthly food budget. While this food budget can include both grocery shopping and eating at restaurants, you have to make sure to abide by your budget. Another way to save money on your grocery bills is to plan your meals in advance. When you know exactly what you need from the store, it's easier to avoid impulse purchases. Lastly, you should always be on the lookout for deals and coupons. If you get into the habit of shopping wisely, you can greatly reduce your monthly food costs.   Follow these simple, effective tips and you'll be able to save money so that you have more flexibility in your Philadelphia budget. 4 Ways You Can Give Back to Philadelphia This Spring

Giving back to your community is a privilege, an honor, and a meaningful way to come together with your friends and neighbors as you all work to make your parks brighter, your streets cleaner, and your community more beautiful. As befits the City of Brotherly Love, Philadelphia residents love working with each other to beautify and improve their richly historic city. If you're from Philly, live there now, or simply love it, make sure you show up in spring so that you can join native Philadelphians as they give back to the city they call home. Volunteer at Bartram's Garden Giving back isn't about what you get in return, but receiving something as a result of volunteering isn't exactly a bad thing. Philadelphia's Bartram's Garden sprawls over 45 acres and dates back to the 18 th century. The property and gardens originally belonged to John Bartram, the first botanist in the United more States. The plants and flowers Bartram collected and cataloged along the Schuylkill River still bloom and blossom over the property. Needless to say, with that many acres, volunteers are always needed to help with upkeep. Volunteer for ten hours a year and get a free membership to the garden. Help the Youth with Urban Blazers Urban Blazers is an amazing organization that aims to give Philadelphia's under-resourced kids a chance to enjoy nature. Many children who live in the city have no way to get access to the natural resources that surround them. Volunteering with Urban Blazers gives you the opportunity to take inner city kids to local state parks and more. You can go swimming, canoeing, fishing, or hiking, not to mention skiing, rock climbing, and bike riding. Join the Philly Spring Cleanup The Philly Spring Cleanup takes place every year, and since 2017 marks the 10 th annual event, it's sure to do even better than last year. Last year, 28,895 volunteers came together across 902 project sites. Together, they discarded 655,320 pounds of trash, recycled 18,200 pounds of material, collected 18,840 pounds of yard waste, and got rid of 3,455 tires. Philly is always left sparkling after the Spring Cleanup, and this year, you can take part in it, as well. Participate in Love Your Park Love Your Park is a city-wide week devoted to sprucing up the many parks dotted throughout Philadelphia. Philly loves its parks, which is no surprise, given that one of America's largest city parks is right in the heart of Philadelphia. For a week, events occur at the city's parks, kicking off with Volunteer Day — a day that's just for volunteers to put in the time and work needed to clean up essential neighborhood spaces. Try to stay the entire week if you can, even after volunteering — it's worth the time off from work. From planting trees and giving garden tours to going swimming with a fun-loving group of kids and cleaning up city parks, Philadelphia provides a broad range of opportunities for natives and visitors alike to give back. Given that Philadelphia is a cultural, historical goldmine, the least we can do is to try to keep it beautiful for generations to come. Image by Larisa-K, used under CCO 1.0

Creative Date Ideas in Philadelphia

Looking to plan your next date? There's no better time than the present to surprise your significant other with a perfectly planned night. The City of Brotherly Love offers a wide range of ways that you can bond with your sweetheart. While you can always opt for dining at an acclaimed restaurant, attending a breathtaking theatrical performance or exploring a world-class museum, why not spice up your night with something a little out-of-the-box? Sweep your date off of her feet and get ready to make some unexpected and precious memories that will last for years. Below we've highlighted some top unique date ideas in Philadelphia. Get Creative With Clay You and your sweetheart can try your hand at pottery at The Clay Studio, a ceramics and pottery studio located in Old City. The Clay Studio hosts many Date Nights throughout the month, and it's a great place more to learn a new hobby with your date. Roll up those sleeves, throw some clay on the potter's wheel, get a little dirty, and let your creativity flow. Here, you can either let your imagination run wild, or you can get some advice from an on-hand instructor. The Clay Studio even glazes and fires your finished product so you can put it on display. While the studio often has open time slots, we do recommend you sign up in advance just in case. Float in Space Head on down to Flotation Philly, in Fishtown, for a very fun and unusual date night. What exactly takes place there? You and your date will slip into two side-by-side sensory-deprivation pods where you will float in warm water in complete darkness and silence for 90 minutes. The pods hold 10 inches of water that's loaded with Epson salts to increase your buoyancy and create a feeling of weightlessness. Many clients find the experience deeply relaxing, and it's certainly something out of the ordinary. If the two of you are hungry afterwards, you can end the evening at one of the nearby restaurants located just down the street. Have a Luxurious Stay-Home Date You can stay at home for an evening and still treat your date and yourself to some extravagant treats. First, give Soothe a try. This on-demand, in-home massage service will send therapists to your house with little to no notice. Afterwards, splurge and order a delicious meal from Caviar, a food delivery service that only serves food from the city's top independent restaurants. After tantalizing your taste buds with fresh food from Fat Ham or Amada, you can top off the evening by getting brews delivered to your door from goBeer. Through this service, you can order just about any beer that you and your date desire. For a city that's packed with history, hipsters, and just about everything in between, the options for a creative date night are truly endless. While the above are just some of our favorites, we want to hear from you. What is a unique date that you've ever been on or planned? Image by Free-Photos, used under CCO 1.0
