Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. (TMS) announced today that the Toyota Tundra full-size pickup truck is slated to tow the space shuttle Endeavour during its final journey to the California Science Center on October 13, 2012, where it will go on permanent display. The Endeavour will travel a total of 12 miles from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) on city streets to the Science Center, with the Tundra towing the last quarter mile.

There is no larger or more recognizable icon of the U.S. space program’s success than the shuttle, and to have it towed by the Toyota Tundra is not only an incredible example of the capabilities of the truck, but an honor to be part of history,” said Ed Laukes, TMS vice president of marketing communications. “The entire journey is something the world will be watching, and gives us a chance to prove that the ‘overbuilt’ Tundra is built to do any job – even tow the space shuttle.”

On Wednesday September 5th, Ardmore Toyota had a special visit from a class of 12 future Toyota Engineers from Japan. The 12 students are currently enrolled in a unique program at the University of Penn where they are learning about the American Culture and Language. These Engineering students were sent over to UPenn by Toyota Motor Sales Japan to learn our culture. They will be returning to Japan in the next 3 weeks where they will continue their studies with Toyota to become future executives and engineers of Toyota Motor Sales. We were fortunate to have them meet with our VP of Marketing, Ryan Pesin and tour the facility as guests for the afternoon at Ardmore Toyota where they spent time learning about an American Toyota Dealership and the processes that are in place that make Ardmore Toyota successful. They were able to ask some of our technicians, parts associates, and salespeople some wonderful questions that they will take back to Japan and use in their future studies.

The 2013 Scion FR-S rear-wheel-drive sports car has earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s “Top Safety Pick” rating, bringing the company’s total of IIHS Top Safety Picks awards to 18, the most of any manufacturer in the industry.

FR-S comes standard with six airbags, including dual-stage advanced driver- and front-passenger airbags, front-seat-mounted airbags and side-curtain airbags.  Like all Scions, the FR-S features the Star Safety System that includes Traction Control (TRAC), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Brake Assist (BA), an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Smart Stop Technology (SST).

The 18 Toyota, Lexus and Scion models named Top Safety Picks this year are the Toyota Avalon, Camry, Corolla, Highlander, Prius, Prius c, Prius v, Sienna, Tundra (crew cab), Venza and Yaris (4-door hatchback); Scion tC, xB, xD, and FRS; and Lexus CT 200h, GS and RX.

In its effort to determine crashworthiness — how well a vehicle protects its occupants in a crash — the Institute rates vehicles good, acceptable, marginal or poor based on performance in high-speed front and side crash tests, a rollover test, plus evaluations of seat/head restraints for protection against neck injuries in rear impacts.  Top Safety Picks must have good ratings in all four tests.

On behalf of all employees at Max Paul’s Ardmore Toyota & Central City Toyota, a $5000 donation was made on September 3rd, 2012 to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation. This year, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation celebrates 50 years of “Honoring Marines by Educating Their Children”. Through the support of corporate and individual donors, the Scholarship Foundation has increased scholarship awards by 51 percent since 2006, providing each and every eligible applicant with educational aid and paying particular attention to those whose parent has been killed or wounded in combat, or who have demonstrated financial need. Since 1962, we have awarded more than 30,000 scholarships. We are grateful for your generosity and hope that you will take great pride in the important difference that your gift makes.

We’ve all been there, you’re driving down a rocky road, and a small stone is kicked up and kits your windshield. Often, these small rocks don’t do any damage – they just give us a fright – but today was not your day. In the blink of any eye, a star shaped crack appears in your windshield. It looks small now, but an unattended start-shaped blemish can, over time, develop into a big crack that reaches across the length of your windshield.

Not only is a crack distracting to the eye, but it is also dangerous, as it compromises the strength and integrity of your protective windshield. Though there are countless companies can fill and repair the “star”, it’s best to visit your dealer. They will do a thorough assessment of the damage and fix it properly, while ensuring that your windshield is returned to its pre-damaged state. Plus, if your windshield should need to be replaced, your dealer can order the proper replacement for your specific make and model.

Toyota has branded its zippy new sport coupe with the abbreviation “FR-S.” It stands for “front-engine, rear-drive, sport.” Cars in Toyota’s Scion brand are given abbreviated names, but the FR-S is truly a revival of Toyota’s once-popular Celica sport coupe. The FR-S is the most fun new car I’ve driven in my recent memory. It is exactly the kind of car that the doomsayers insist is dead because they say kids are forsaking driving in favor of going online to interact with their friends.  Nonsense, I say.  Sporty little coupes still attract young drivers. These vehicles just need to be designed for today’s young drivers and not those of decades past.
