spotifyNothing goes better with a drive than some good music. Whether you’re simply driving around town or you’re on a big road trip, check out these best apps for streaming music so you never have to miss out on your favorite tunes.

1. Spotify

If you like sharing what you’re listening to with your friends, Spotify is an excellent app to have. Available free on both Apple and Android devices, this app lets you share what you’re listening to on social media websites and lets you check out your friends’ playlists so you can discover new music. With the free version of the app, you can play any playlist, artist, or album in shuffle mode. Or for $9.99 a month, you can play any song on any device at any time, enjoy ad-free music, and listen offline.

2. Apple Music

Apple’s own streaming music service, Apple Music, charges $9.99 for a monthly subscription or $14.99 for the family plan. With this subscription, you get access to a huge amount of music from the company’s artist collection. You can create custom playlists based on your favorite artists and listening habits, and you can download music to listen to offline. You also get access to Beats 1, which is a worldwide radio station that has celebrity deejays sharing their favorite hits 24 hours a day. The app is compatible with Apple and Android devices.

3. Google Play Music

If you choose to use the free version of Google Play Music, you can create ad-supported playlists based on an artist, song, album, genre, decade, activity, and more. You can also upload 50,000 of your own songs and listen to them across all your connected Apple or Android devices. If you want to pay the $9.99 a month subscription, you’ll enjoy uninterrupted, ad-free listening; you can skip as many songs as you’d like when you’re listening; and you get instant access to over 35 million songs.

4. Pandora

Pandora is ideal for getting that perfectly personalized playlist. Simply type in an artist or song title, and the app will create a playlist based on that genre. Give each song a thumb up or a thumb down, and the app will learn what kind of music you like and tailor your playlist accordingly. You can download the app and listen for free but with ads; pay $0.99 to go ad-free for one day, or pay $4.99 a month and go completely ad-free. Pandora is available for both Apple and Android devices.

5. iHeartRadio

Do you have a favorite radio station in a city you moved away from that you’d love to listen to again? Simply download iHeartRadio free on either your Apple or Android device and start listening to live radio feeds from cities around the world. While not every radio station is available, and you do have to listen to ads, you can also create a custom playlist based on an artist, song title, or activity.
